Jumpstart Test Prep helps Franklin County students with ACT® efforts

Jumpstart Test Prep announced the ACT® exam improvement results from Franklin County High School’s students spring test date following the classroom implementation of the Jumpstart Review. Of the students having at least one prior ACT® score for improvement comparison, 58% with a prior score improved over their prior best attempt by an average 2.28 Composite points, and in each subject area, the students’ scores improved by 58% in Math (+2.64 points avg.), 44% in Science (+2.90 points avg.), 65% in English (+3.39 points avg.), and 46% in Reading (+3.86 points avg.)!

Top achievers were recently recognized and include:

  • Nekiah Dishmon (Composite +6 pts., English +8 pts. Science +6 pts., and Reading +7pts.)
  • Ross O’Quinn (Reading +7 pts.)
  • Levi Sterling (Science +6 pts. and English +6 pts.)
  • Alyssa Touchstone (Composite +5 pts., English +6 pts., Math +9 pts., and Reading +5pts.)
  • Dudley Wilkinson (Scored a 24 on first attempt)

Dudley Wilkson, a student at Franklin County, commented, “I scored a 24 on the ACT® on my first try. What I like about this program is that it reviewed a lot of information that I had forgotten and allowed to slip my mind as years have gone by. It had a great format with good practice questions.”

“I improved eight points on the ACT®, and what I liked the most about it was that it refreshed my memory on everything,” said another student, Nekiah Dishmon.

These improvements are not possible without the diligence and support of the teachers tasked to help raise scores at Franklin County.

The guidance and encouragement of administration also plays a huge role in raising scores. Principal Lisa Storey commented, “We have enjoyed our partnership with Jumpstart and reaped the benefits of the program. The faculty and staff at FHS are excited about the future. We anticipate the ACT® average score will continue to improve.  Thank you to the founders of Jumpstart, as this was one of the tools that we used for improvement.  Increasing the ACT® score helps students and their families in their future endeavors both financially and academically.”

Jumpstart Test Prep is an online review program based on over 50 years of work by Dot McClendon, a legendary educator and Mississippi's 19-year STAR teacher Hall of Fame inductee. "As a teacher at The Mississippi School of the Arts and several other schools during my career, I was able to help guide the preparation of students in person," said McClendon. "Now through our online, on-demand video review, students in Franklin County classrooms, as well as classrooms around the country, around the breakfast table, or on the couch at home, are able to benefit from our approach."
